I am very enthusiastic each year to watch the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, especially to watch the newly introduced million dollars bra. The bras are so beautiful!!! I wish I own one of these.

Here is a collection of all of the million dollars bras Victoria’s Secret has produced. They produced one bra a year on each fashion show. This tradition started in 1996, 16 years ago so there are currently 16 million dollars bras available for us to look and enjoy. I will start with the latest one first.

I have been wearing bras since I was like 10 years old but whoever invented the bras, I have no idea. I had a minute today so I went on to read about the history of the bra. It is very interesting because back in the very, very old days, human ran nude in the forest. The breasts were not protected by anything so they were both dirty and out of shape. History of the Bra

From this Wikipedia article, back in the early days, women used a variety of things to cover their breasts. In the 1600′s, the Chinese invented something better but was only popular among the wealthy, I guess because only them had the luxury to do so while the other lower classes had to work to feed their families and had no money for such luxury treatment.

The bras kept getting reinvented and by the early 1900′s the bras got a big leap. In 1910, Mary Jacob, a 19 years old New Yorker, bought a corset for a social event but she wasn’t happy with it because her breasts were too large, the corset was too stiff and was too uncomfortable.

Wasn’t happy with the corset, Mary went on to design a totally new device to cover her breasts. It consisted of two silk handkerchiefs and cords. The device brought immediate attention that evening and sometime later, a stranger offered her a dollar for the device. Realizing the potential, Mary patented the design and started a business to sell her bras. It was too unfortunate that Mary’s husband didn’t like it and persuaded Mary to sell off the business and the patent.

Corset

The new company wasn’t too successful at selling the bras and eventually discontinued it but it happened to earn millions from selling design rights from the patent. I love Victoria’s Secret and any good news about Victoria’s Secret makes me super excited During this morning’s news reading, I came across an article that shows the statistics of the internet’s most popular search terms in the past week. The article is on Yahoo news which you can find it here.

According to the article, the search for “victoria’s secret” jumped 90%. That is a lot and I am really happy for Victoria’s Secret. That means more fans, more sales and more earnings possibly leading to more discounts offered for fans like us :p

The Victoria’s Secret annual fashion show was taken place on November 29, maybe that was part of the reason why the search surged. Who can afford not to watch that wonderful fashion show?

So who is Victoria in Victoria’s Secret? I finally know the answer

Victoria’s Secret was named after a very famous person, England’s queen Victoria. Here is the article that pointed out the answer.

Queen Victoria’s real name was Alexandrina Victoria. She was born on 24 May 1819 and passed away at the age of 81 on 22 January 1901. Queen Victoria ruled the United Kingdom for 63 years from 1 May 1876 until her death on 22 January 1901.

I spent a lot of time searching for hints on why Roy Raymond picked Queen Victoria to name his company; whether he had any business ideas behind the name; or if he admired the queen’s beauty or if there was any other secret! I guess it will take me a lot more time to find out or maybe I won’t be able to find out at all.

In my previous post about Victoria’s Secret history, I mentioned Roy Raymond, who was the original founder of Victoria’s Secret. I was very curious about who was Victoria in Victoria’s Secret so I went on to search and found a very sad news.

I haven’t been able to find out who was Victoria in Victoria’s Secret but I found out that Roy Raymond is no longer alive. It was under my impression that Roy Raymond would still be alive today and he should be very successful but according to Wikipedia, Roy Raymond passed away in 1993 at the age of just 46. What was even more sad was he passed away by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge

How sad! After selling Victoria’s Secret, Mr. Roy Raymond went on to start a new company called My Child’s Destiny. This company didn’t seem to work out well for him and went bankrupt in 1986.

I found an old news article from The New York Times notifying the public about Mr. Roy Raymond’s death on September 02, 1993:

The reason of death is unknown but the article said Roy Raymond was a divorced man. Being divorced and unsuccessful in business caused him to end his life? Plus maybe he regretted selling Victoria’s Secret since the company was very successful in 1993?

Victoria’s Secret has a really interesting history. You may already know that Victoria’s Secret was started by Roy Raymond, a business man in San Francisco, CA, but the cool thing is back in 1977, Roy wanted to buy lingerie for his wife but he was embarrassed to do so, like many men do . From that experience, he then opened Victoria’s Secret for the male audience creating a comfortable environment for males to shop bras and panties for their women. That’s pretty cool.

The company quickly expanded to six stores and Ray sold the company five years later to Leslie Wexner, the creator of Limited Brands Corporation. Under Leslie’s command, Victoria’s Secret kept expanding quickly and is now a leading retailer in women’s wear, lingerie, and beauty products. I also love to watch the Victoria’s Secret fashion show!
